Out Box is a "Black Hole" - nothing escapes!!

I use Outlook 2003 on WinXP. My editor is Word 2003.
If I am online when I "send" a new message from Word it seems to work OK. BUT, if the email ever gets into my Outbox it stays there for ever! Even on line, if I re-open the message and "Send" from Word it cycles through the send dialoque but the b****y message stays in the OutBox!!!. If, when on line I "Send/Receive" from Outlook, it goes through the send/receive dialogue but the Out Boxed message remains!!
What am I doing wrong??
Many thanks in advance,

Further to my email above. If I move the message from Outbox to Drafts it then sends OK. Hope this helps diagnose the problem.

Try Tools/Options/ in Mail Setup check the box that says "Send immediately when connected"

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your reply. In Outlook I went to Tools/options/Mail Setup and the "Send Immediately"was already ticked. I still have the problem. If I move the message from OUtbox to Drafts it sends OK.
Any other ideas?

Does your e-mail server require authentication before sending? If so, this option should be checked
in your options as well.
