Out of Memory error with Word X

Using a Mac dual 1GHz w/1.5 GB RAM runing Mac OS 10.2.8. Opening a
Word attachment to an e-mail works the first time, but on the second e-mail
with a Word attachment I get an error message "Out of Memory." Since
there is plenty of RAM and since Mac OS 10.2.8 adjusts memory
automatically, I am requesting suggestions on how to resolve the problem. I
have already run DiskWarrior3 and rebuilt the directory. Quiting Word X and
relaunching for each Word attachment works, but that is not a solution, only
a work around.

A general troubleshooting step is to use Disk Utility First Aid to repair
permissions.

What email program are you using?

Thanks Jim. I will try your suggestion on repair permissions.
Currently that computer is running Outlook Express for Mac (Classic).
I have two other users of Word X also using Outlook Express with no
problems.

Hi again,

Remember that OSX does not adjust memory settings within Classic. You still
need to manually increase the preferred RAM using Finder's Get Info command.

You also still need to rebuild the desktop file (you can do that from the
system panel in OSX).
