out of office assistant . . .

I am trying to created an automated out of office message
in Outlook 2000, but there is no Out of Office Assistant
as indicated in the help file.

You have to be connected to an Exchange server for this feature. You could
set a rule for it to reply to all received messages but this means you'll
have to have Outlook open all the time in order to perform the rule. Make
sure you also create exceptions on the subject field so it won't reply on
message that contain "failed", "autoreply", "non-deliverable", etc or you'll
create endless loops on the mail.
