Outline Codes

Hi All

I cannot find any good descrptions or examples of the purpose and usage of
outline codes. I just want to learn about them and having searched in google
I didn't come up with very much. Is anyone aware of a resource that can
provide some workthroughs?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

LOL - Hey Rod

I've created a separate view incorporating outline codes. The codes have
the project management sub-processes. As a result the PM's use this to
ensure the relevant sub-processes are incorporated and the tasks reflect
this. Currently, the schedules are very technical and to the untrained eye
not so clear.

As you know the schedule can then be grouped and filtered on this basis to
see different areas. This allows the PM to focus more on creating "project"
schedules, as opposed to a list of technical tasks with no clear deliverables.

That's the theory anyway. Are you going to tell me there's a better way of
achieving the same thing?

Cheers, H

No, I won't! :) To my recollection I've never used the Outline Codes
in real life.

This is why I like Project ... always learning something despite having
started with the DOS version in the 1980'.

Hello Rod

Thanks for getting back. I've not used them either and just wanted to poke
around under the hood a little. I'm kind thinking I could slice the project
a part now in a number of ways - but small steps.

Its a shape the users here can't exchange files, as I'd share it with people
to get feedback and improve it.

Cheers, H

I'm "Rob". There is a "Rod" but he knows way more about Project than me!
