Outline rollups

I have created an outline code in 2007 for G/L codes and need to get a rollup
on each level.

My outline code works as follows:

4-digit number
3-digit letter
2-digit number

My code mask is working fine and I can assign the appropriate G/L code to
each task. When I go to create a rollup, I have created a custom grouping
with 3 levels, all the field G/L. On the highest level I tell it to group in
level 1, on the 2nd level I tell it to group on level 2, and on the third
level I leave it on on each value.

The result I get is No value on the top level and unintelligible characters
in the summary rows for level 2 and 3.

I'm trying to sum up cost and work by the detailed part of the G/L code as
well as the higher parts of the code.

What am I doing incorrectly?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for responding so fast!

That only gives me totals for either the entire amount (if I choose group by
level) or on the detailed breakout at the lowest level (if I choose by each
item).

I need a total on each level.

For example, If I'm looking at cost, this is what I want to see:

G/L Code Cost
1000 400 (rollup of all 1000 tasks)
aa 100 (rollup of all 1000-aa tasks)
88 50 (rollup of all 1000-aa-88
tasks)
task 1 30
task 2 20
99 50 (rollup of all 1000-aa-99
tasks)
etc

I don't have 2003 anymore, but I seem to remember that this used to work -
am I wrong?

Sorry, I can't imagine what you missed but that is exactly how grouping by
an outline code works, just to make sure I tested it again. Send me the file
if you like, I can have a look (tomorrow, it's evening here in Europe)

Sorry for the delay, the problem is now solved. The solution involved
getting the SP1 and Infrastructure patch updates loaded (not sure which of
the two solved it), but no changes to the project plan nor outline code.
Since you had mentioned that it seemed to be relatively straightforward, that
clued me into thinking that maybe the software was the issue and I had to
wait until our IT department downloaded the patches and installed them.

Thanks for offering to look at the file.
