Outlook 03-Wont resolve Server/user names

B

Ben Hart

Im attempting to re-setup an Outlook profile for a user, however when I enter
the exchange server name and the user's name, neither are resolved. I even
tried the FQDN to no avail. I can ping our Exchange box by both IP and UNC
so network connectivity are not the issue here, I also get favorible results
using nslookup as well. I've tried everyhting from removing Outlook XP and
replacing it with 03, swapped nic's, flushed the DNS cache... I'm totally
lost here. Any thoughts???

In the area where you supply the servername/username and select the check
name box in setting up the profile, do you get any type of error message
back? The reason that I ask is that it could be possible that the RPC
registry keys are missing from the system in question. (e.g. Older versions
of Outlook would throw a message of unable to logon to the address book
while outlook 2003/7 will throw the message of a system component, RPC,
required by Outlook to connect to the e-mail server is not configured
properly. For more information, contact your system administrator.).

RPC keys are mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830914.
