Outlook 2000 Archive File Size

J

Jeff

My pst file is about 1.1G in size.

When I archive, my active pst file shrinks to about 0.9G in size, but it
creates an archive file size that is much large than the 0.2G. The archive
file size is usually 1.5G to over the 2G limit.

Any thoughts on why this is happening, or how to prevent it?

Archives are cumulative. Every time you archive something, it's added to
the archive PST, so the archive PST continues to grow. You need to create
new archive files periodically or, with Outlook closed, simply copy the
existing archive PST to another folder or rename it in the folder where it
resides. Outlook will automatically create a new one the next time the
archive function operates.

Also, if an item is removed from your main PST via the archive function, the
main PST won't automatically shrink. You may have to compact the PST to
notice a size decrease.
