Outlook 2000 hangs up after I read the e-mail

I can access my e-mail, but after I open an e-mail, and I
begin to close it, it freezes, and I have to alt-control-
delete to shut it down. Then I can re-open it, and it
starts the same thing all over again. What causes this?
