Outlook 2000 NEVER shuts down... any ideas?

I am running Outlook 2000 under Windows XP Pro. Each and
every time I shut down Oulook it does not stop running in
the background. I have to use the task manager to end
the OUTLOOK.EXE program to get out of it. This happens
every single time I use Oulook, which is every day. Does
anyone have any ideas? I have updated with all the
available updates.
