Outlook 2000 pst file size too big..over 2 gig

Terry

Please can someone tell me if I upgrade to Outlook 2003
from 2000 will I then be able to open my Outlook file?
Currently the Outlook file will not open because it is
now over the 2 gig file size limit for 2000 version.

I need to get my data.

Thanks
Terry

You will need to access your 97-2002 .pst file in order to copy it to a new
unicode .pst file - the only way to do this is to have it open. Opening it
involves a cut/repair - see this page for details and a link to the tool:
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/repair2gbpst.htm

Once you have it repaired (how did it get so friggin big in the first
place???), you can open it in OUtlook 2003, create a new unicode .pst file
and then drag and drop from the old to the new. Close the old once
complete.

I updated from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2002 XP and I
would strongly suggest that you first make a backup copy
of your .pst file onto a CDRom because it didn't load all
of my addresses or file folders. Use the "import/export"
feature of Outlook 2000, choose "export", then the PST
option and save it to a directory where you can go and
find. (Otherwise it picks the spot to move it to and
it's a bear to find!) You *cannot* copy it directly to
the CDRom. You have to put it on the hard disk first. If
the CDRom fills up, as most of them are 700MB, it should
ask you for a new one (hopefully). 2 Gigs is pretty
large. The backup can then be imported into 2003 using
the same "import/export" function (in case it doesn't
refresh after upgrading.) Hope that helps!

Rinse, repeat: Importing a .pst file into Outlook is unnecessary and WILL
result in loss of data. Use File->Open, copy the .pst contents into your
new .pst file or make the old one the default.

Please do not request that posters take actions that will result in loss of
data - File->Open is the method to access a prior .pst file.
