Outlook 2000 trashes my Address Book !!!

I have Win Xp, Office 2000. I just switched from OE to Outlook, and
am learning my way around, as I expect to be in an office workplace
rather than at home in the near future.

I imported my address book entries into Outlook, and then edited them,
deleting many entries that do not relate to my business work.

Now the Address Book, which I gather is not part of Outlook, reflects
the edits. All of my personal and hobby email addresses are gone!
(Fortunately, I have a backup of the address book elsewhere).

I gather that Outlook does not use the Address Book, but uses
Contacts, which are in a pst file.

Q: Why did editing the contacts in Outlook also impact my Address
Book?

Q: How do I make sure Outlook doesn't trash my Address Book again?

Sounds like you have OE set up to display Outlook's contacts in the OE
Address Book. This is an OE option; see
