outlook 2000 word issue

I have a client that uses office 2000. Because of 3rd party software,
they cannot upgrade.
When a specific person, not related to the company, sends a word or
excel file it looks like it decoded (not sure if this is the correct
wording).
Basically it starts off like this:
0M8R4KGxGuEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPgADAP7 then goes on from there.
any thoughts.

It's only from that person? Then it is very likely that the issue is not on
your side but on the sending side.

Has the Office 2000 client installed the Office 2007 Compability pack? The
file structure has changed.

It seems that others that work for the same company around my area are
having the same issue. Would it make sense that it could be an email
server issue. Could the server be corrupting the attachments coming
from this one user? IE somehow chaning a MIME setting. the sending
party is using office xp.
