Outlook 2000/XP/2003 regsvr32 vbscript.dll registerforms error

Adrian Vogler

Hi all,

I have the following problem with Outlook (various versions, see
above). After applying the update from one Office version to the next
it is always the same problem with Outlook.

When I start Outlook for the first time I get the error message: "A
VB-script dll could not be registered...self-register via
"regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll".

This NEVER EVER worked. I think the error message is caused by
previous errors and dos not show the source of the problem.

Each time I try to start Outlook it shows the error and then exits.

I took a look at the registry and there is this key
HKLM\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Setup where various configuration/setup
steps are detailed. by commenting out the "RegisterForms"-item I am
able to let Outlook start and work with it.

But then again f.e. the Mailto-link in IE dos not work.

How can the RegisterForms-steps be manually applied?

THoH! - Thanks for every Help or Hint!

Best regards,
-Adrian

Disable virus scan software
Copy vbscript.dll from install source to C:\Windows\System32
Register file by dragging and dropping on Regsvr32.exe located in the
same folder on the system.

Or

Open a cmd prompt by click Start/ Run
In the command Windows change directories (cd) to c:\Windows\System32.
Run the following command.

regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll.

You will get a message to confirm registration of the vbscript file.
