I have outlook 2001 and Office X and panther. THe spellcheck does
not work. When I try, it says it is not working and may need to be
reinstalled or reconfigured. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm drawing on old knowledge, so I can't guarantee this is your answer.
I believe Outlook 2001 would use the Office spellchecker if you had
Office installed, otherwise the spellchecker feature was grayed.

Since you have Office X, a Mac OS X version of Office, Outlook 2001 (a
pre-Mac OS X application) will not recognize it.
