Outlook 2002 --cannot send email when jpeg attachment is over 1mb

J

JimC67

Using Outlook 2002 SP3 and Windows XP SP2 and SBC Yahoo DSL.
I can send the attachment through Yahoo Mail.
I readily receive attachments over 1mb.
Thank you for any solution suggestions. SBC is of no help.

Are you behind a router that lets you share a single IP address with many
machines?

The other question is when you try, to get a message back from the server
that message is too large?

I use a Dell laptop, pentium III, with a Linksys router and a pcmia wireless
card in the laptop. The laptop is the only computer on the network. I hope
this answers your first question. How can I check the "single IP address"
issue --I seem to remember mine picks an IP address "automatically", but I am
not sure of this and don't know how to check this.

I don't understand the second question. I have do not have any trouble
receiving messages with large (2mb plus) attachments.

Thanks so much for your help!
Jim

I'll try that and let you know. Schwab had me change the original MTU because
of a Quicken D/L problem --which they did not solve. I may be calling on you
for Quicken help before this is over!
Thanks! Jim

The only listings under "interfaces" are shown below. The 6th and 7th
listings have MTU listings that include the number "1300". Should I change
it to 1492 in both cases, or show you exactly what is listed there?

Under one of those long alpha-numeric strings, which one has a reference to
your current ip address? (Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all.)
Is it one of the ones that hold the 1300 MTU value? If it is, don't change
it as there is something else causing the drops.

Do you have any antivirus, antispam, or personal firewall (e.g. ZoneAlarm)
installed that can scan outbound e-mail?

J

Everyone of the strings lists my IP address as 0.0.0.0.0 and shows REG_MULTI_SZ
I use Trend Micro Internet Security (formerly PC-cillin) and am sure it
scans outgoing mail.
When I run ipconfig/all the DOS window quickly opens and then closes before
I can read it.

Try start > run > cmd > ok button. now type ipconfig /all. (Helps to do
this when you are connected to the linksys)

Okay, you might consider uninstalling the product if disabling the scanning
of e-mail doesn't work. (The outlook groups are seeing a lot of reports of
dropped connections all centering around internet security products (Norton,
Panda, Trend, ZoneAlarm, .etc) that can scan e-mail.

My problem is solved thanks to you!
In the preferences for Trend Internet Security, the default for outgoing
mail is set to Not scan outgoing mail over 3mb. I changed this to 1mb and
all is well. Not logical to me --but so what, it works!
I have had difficulty accessing this site and therefore the reason for my
delay in reporting back and thanking you.

Next: How do I set a default font size in my outgoing email in Outlook 2002?
Thanks again, Jim
