outlook 2002 error message & duplicate emails

I almost always get this error message when I open or use
the send/receive button in outlook 2002

Task 'pop.mindspring.com - Sending and Receiving'
reported error (0x800CCC97): 'Unknown Error 0x800CCC97'

I have been getting as many as 15 duplicate emails, the
exact number is inconsistant from one message to another.

Mindspring (ISP) suggested I run 'repair' on Office XP
and still have the problem.

Any help out there??
