Outlook 2002 not receiving POP MAIL from Internal POP Server

Hi everyone

Am having a strange problem..

Have Windows XP Pro PC - was upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro, then new
drivers applied, then Office XP clean install, then Office XP sp1,2,3. PC
connected to gateway straight to internet... there is a single server on the
LAN (Linux) which runs file/pop3 mail.

OutlookXP can check/receive/send POP3 mail at ISP via the LAN no problems
But times out when trying to receive mail via POP3 server on LAN.
Outlook can communicate and test via the accounts tools to POP3 on LAN,
address is resolvable, can be pinged.

This works with Outlook Express perfectly, just not Outlook 2002...

is this an issue between Outlook 2002 and the pop3 server in terms of
incompatibility?? I havent found out what the LAN pop3 server is yet -
apparently some clients on the LAN (Running outlook 2000) are fine

Any ideas?
