Outlook 2002 Notes imported from .pst file

I attempted to import data from a .pst file (I only noticed two on the old
computer: backup.pst and backup2.pst) from a previous computer. Both
computers have Outlook 2002. The import was successful in restoring my
contacts, but I had several folders in the notes section and they are all
missing. Is there another file extension other than .pst that would have the
notes? Is there something I didn't do properly with the import. I followed
the instructions of the import wizard and it all seemed pretty straight
forward, but only brought in some of the information I expected.

You never import native Outlook data. You open the .pst file in Outlook using File->Open->Outlook Data file. Then copy your items to your default .pst file and close the unneeded one.

I tried doing that, but the notes section still came up blank. I thought
maybe the import corrupted something, so I resaved the backup onto my desktop
from it's original source, deleted the contacts that had imported before, and
tried to open the file as you instructed. Now Outlook is completely blank
without even the contacts. Any thoughts?
