Outlook 2002 (SP2) quirks and foibles

Outlook is taking 30-40 seconds to open after
the "splash" screen appears. I can see the folder list
on the left but there is nothing in the message pane on
the right until the splash screen disappears. I have two
accounts and this occurs on both; on one only the mail
message icon in the Inbox is missing. The much worse
situation is that Outlook is frequently "hanging" after
being closed and Outlook does NOT show as active in Task
Manager but CPU usage is at 100%. Upon doing Start/Turn
Off Computer an End Program dialog box for Outlook.exe
appears and the shutdown/restart then proceeds normally.
I have all updates installed, have done Detect and Repair
and have reinstalled Outlook from Add/Remove Programs (at
least I think I have! LOL). Any light that anyone could
shed on this situation would certanly be much
appreciated!
