Outlook 2002 won't send some messages

Sometimes when I create a particularly large message (esp
with attchments) Outlook won't send the email. It will go
through the send receive process and say 'send receive
complete' but the message will stay in the outbox as
though it has not been sent! When I try to close outlook
it tells me I have 'unsent messages' even though I have
repeatedly clicked the send receive button!!! Help!!!
