Thanks to "Masen" for the answer to my problem. In brief, the Outlook
XP desktop icon was deleted (probably by Desktop Cleanup Wizard). I
tried several methods to restore the icon with no success, including two
different workarounds from the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Masen
suggested I use the "Detect and Repair" option on the Help menu in any
Office program. I used the option from Word. It worked, but I had to
restart my machine or log off my account (I'm not sure which) to see the
change. In my case, I restarted my computer, and when I logged into my
account, there was the icon. And it has the "mail properties" function,
just as I desired.
Thanks again, Masen.
