Outlook 2002 (XP)

setting up email accounts in outlook I keep receiving this
error: Send test e-mail message: the specified server was
found, but there was no response from the server. Please
verify that the port and SSL information is correct.
Went to ISP website for help and followed their
instructions on how to set it up, in case I was at fault.
Still no luck. Called their support center and after
walking me through everything, they said it was an issue
with Microsoft. Can you help?

Have you installed any of the service-packs for Outlook 2002? For some ISPs
(AT&T among them), you'll need at least SP-1 to use SSL - they use an older
version of it, support for which was inadvertently dropped in the initial
release of Outlook 2002.
