Outlook 2003 and 2007 pst compatibility

S

SA

Hi all,

I am somewhat confused about the compatibility between 2003 and 2007 pst
files.

I have been able to open a pst file created by 2007 in 2003. If I make the
step to use Outlook 2007 B2 in my main environment, will my pst file be
unavailable in 2003?

Thanks,

SA.

Hi SA,

There was no file format change between 2003 and 2007 PSTs which means
that a PST of 2007 should work fine in 2003. If you ever have to repair
your 2007 PST, I would advise extreme caution before using the PST
repair tool (scanpst). It is in Beta 2 still rather broken and might do
more harm than good. Therefore before you ever try it, make a backup
copy of your pst.

Both programs can open .pst files from any version of Outlook. Not to worry.

When I opened my .PST file in Outlook11, after using it in Outlook12, the
connection between the Contacts folder and the Address Book was broken.
While I have fixed that in Outlook11-only situations, the technique is not
working now - OR my memory of the process is faded.

Can you advise (remind) on reconnecting Contacts to Address Book after a
trip through Outlook 12 ? Thanks.

P.S. Nice to see a familiar name after being away from the 'groups (and FC
CoF) for some time.

Cheers. dj

Any chance the Contacts folder has lost it's "Show this folder as an E-mail
Address Book" checkmark in Properties?

"Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" check box is dimmed in Outlook
Contact folder properties

No, I checked that immediately.

Problem is now moot, though. Inability to easily send email is more
critical than issues that caused me to revert to Outlook11, so I have
re-reverted to Outlook12 and the Contacts and AB are connected. I guess that
will remain among the many "mysteries of Outlook". :)

I may be back with Outlook12-centric questions. Thanks very much for the
reply.

Cheers. dj

Sorry about that (unfamiliar with the use of the discussion group). I use
Outlook 2003. One of my customers sent me an e-mail with four contacts from
their Outlook 2007 database. While I could open the e-mail there was no
visible contact information, nor did any data get passed to my Outlook 2003
contacts. This appears to be a compatibility issue.

Any suggestions?
