Lars

I tried to set Outlook 2003 up to run against an IMAP server with 3 accounts
unfortunally i get error (Outlook is unable to download folder (null) from
the IMAP e-mail sever... 0x8004DF0B..).

The error does'nt appear if i use outlook 2002 or Mozilla Thunderbird.

Any suggestions?

I believe this is an issue with SP2's restrictions on maximum
simultaneous TCP/IP connections to the same destination IP
(i.e. your mail server).

Limited number of simultaneous incomplete outbound TCP
connection attempts

Detailed description

The TCP/IP stack now limits the number of simultaneous incomplete
outbound TCP connection attempts. After the limit has been
reached, subsequent connection attempts are put in a queue
and will be resolved at a fixed rate.

Under normal operation, when applications are connecting to available
hosts at valid IP addresses, no connection rate-limiting will occur.
When it does occur, a new event, with ID 4226, appears in the
system's event log.

You can easily verify this by looking at your System Event Viewer
Log and look for a warning like this:

Event ID: 4226
TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of
concurrent TCP connect attempts.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The fix:

None from Microsoft yet. There's an unofficial patch out there
http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools#4226patch that can remove this
restriction however, there're some folks that claim it works and
there're some that says it doesn't.

My workaround is to simply point half of my outgoing IMAP accounts
to a different outbound SMTP server instead of the same IMAP server.
Also, you can increase your check time Tools->Options->Mail Setup->Send/Receive
I set my "Schedule and automatic send/receive" to 10 minutes
instead of the default 5 minutes.
