Outlook 2003 and using the @ sign

I am using Outlook 2003 with Vista Home Premium. Why can I not use the @ sign
? All other keys seem to work. I have also noticed this applies to Word 2003.

Probably because you have additional (wrong) keyboard layouts installed.
