Outlook 2003 - Cannot add or change email address in a new or exis

Hi ,

Outlook 2003 cannot add or change email address in a new or existing
contact. When I try to save the contact I get the following error message:

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook."

I can save new contacts without an email address.
I can save existing contacts if I do not change the email address.
I cannot save a contact with a new or modified email address.

Restarting and even rebooting are ineffective.

Any suggestions?
