Outlook 2003 Contacts, Calendar, Tasks not working.

Help! Apparently my Outlook files became corrupt and scanpst.exe doesn't
help. Can't save new appointments in the calendar. All tasks are overdue
and the system will not allow me to dismiss them. Also, lost a view I had
created. System won't save a name for new contacts. Is it best to remove
Outlook 2003 and reinstall? Will I then be able to create everything from
scratch or will Outlook still maintain the corrupt files? If you reply, I'm
not a computer techy so I hope this will be easy to do! Thanks in advance.

Reinstalling won't replace a corrupt .PST file. See if the information on
the following page helps:

Jocelyn...thanks for the reply. I ran scanpst.exe several times. The
program goes through the routine but when I open Outlook, I still can't save
anything to the calendar, tasks, or contacts. If I reinstall Outlook, won't
I be able to create a brand new pst file and start all over with Outlook?
That's what I'm hoping for. I can always print the data from the contacts,
tasks, and calender and type it into a new pst couldn't I? Is there someone
I can call and speak to about this that could walk me through the steps?
Thanks/Gary

Hi Gary,

Actually the page I pointed you to has other ideas besides running scanpst
(which I did notice you mentioned in your first post). However, based on the
new information you gave me: You don't have to reinstall Outlook to create a
new .PST file; you can create one at any time. Simply click File | New,
choose Outlook Data File, and make sure you choose the new Outlook 2003
Unicode format. Give the file a name other than "Outlook.pst" and you can
put it anywhere you like on your hard drive.

When it opens in your Folder List, you can move anything you like to it, or
just create new items. To make this file your default .PST file, go to Tools
| E-mail Accounts, select View or change existing e-mail accounts, and click
Next. On the next screen, underneath the list of e-mail accounts, choose
your new file in the "Deliver new e-mail to the following location" box and
then click Finish. Let me know how it goes.

On the next screen, underneath the list of e-mail accounts,
choose your new file in the "Deliver new e-mail to the following
location" box and then click Finish. Let me know how it goes.

After which you'll need to stop and restart Outlook for the change to take
effect.
