Outlook 2003, custom views not retained in Inbox

Created custom view for Inbox, go to Inbox subfolder then back to Inbox, the
view settings are reset to the default. Just upgraded from Outlook XP to
Outlook 2003.
Why are the custom view settings not retained? It worked fine in XP.
