Hi,

I have big problem. I use Outlook 2003 and POP3 account to download
messages. Now everyway when i click Send/Recieve Outlook start to
download all e-mails from begining. And again and again - i have
already 3 copies for each e-mail. I delete my account and make it
again, but nothing. The problem stay.
Please give me an advice what to make.

I have a similar problem with numerous installations of OL2003 talking to a
POP3 server that refuses to
support the UIDL and TOP commands. While OL2003 understands what this
implies (for example if you
tell it to leave messages on the server you get a dialog saying that the
server does not support the necessary
functions), it seems that uSoft did not TEST OL2003 with such servers.

Specifically when OL2003 says STAT and LIST to find out about several
messages in the mailbox, it
will NOT necessarily RETR all of the messages and it will not necessarily
DELE all of them. Worse,
the ones it DELE's are not necessarily the same ones it RETR'd.

The result is that you may receive some, but not all, messages multiple
times; and you may not receive
some messages at all. I've watched it look at a mailbox with one message in
it, and just summarily delete
the message without ever looking at it.

One hypothesis is that there's a table of things to do with the <n> messages
LIST describes, which is
normally set up as a result of getting the UIDL list, and that this table is
not properly initialized when
talking to servers that don't support UIDL.

I would love to work with someone from Microsoft on resolving this and will
happily provide them
with access to a mailbox on a POP3 server that elicits this misbehavior from
Outlook.

BTW I've exercised it with junk mail disabled and enabled, no difference;
cannot exercise it with options
for leaving mail on server or for reading just headers enabled, since
Outlook properly understands it
cannot provide those options on such a server.

Did you click 'Save Changes' after enabling "POP only for mail that
arrives from now onin Gmail?" Be sure to click 'Save Changes' on the
Gmail 'Mail Settings' page.
