Outlook 2003 going back Offline in Cache mode

I'm having a couple of users that are running Outlook 2003 in Cache mode
connecting to a Exchange 2003 server on the same LAN but the client is
setting itself to work offline. If they unchecked the "Work Offline" option
it connects and send and receive any emails but sets back to Working offline
again. Client is configured to go out and check any new emails on Exchange
and a POP account every 5 minutes but is not doing this unless they click
Send Receive which then repeats the above cycle. Any help greatly
appreciated! Thanks

And has the Exchange server always been available during that time period?
Is there anything logged to the Event Viewer of the Exchange server or
clients that informs you about the connection loss?

Yes, the server has been on all the time. We had a DNS issue yesterday where
a vendor had to bring a DC down and temprarily change the IP to another DC
but the issue was resolved. However, some users claim that this issue was
happening before the DNS incident.
