outlook 2003 hanging with faultrep.dll

I am using outlook 2003 with work 2003 as my default editor (as usual). But
this morning when I try to send a message from outlook 2003, outlook hangs
with the following error in event viewer: event ID 1001, file name:
faultrep.dll, file version 5.1.2600.5512 outlook hangs with the text box
saying word 2003 is starting as your default editor. I have to close outlook
2003 through the task manager to get it to end. This only started happening
today. I have put outlook 2003 in safe mode (outlook.exe /safe) and that is
the only way I can sent a test message to another user. What do I do to
solve this problem and what should I look for to fix this problem.

faultrep.dll

Part of Windows Error Reporting.

After running Outlook in its safe mode and seeing it worked okay in that
mode, did you disable all add-ons and then load Outlook in its normal mode
to retest? If that works, start enabling the add-ons one at a time, reload
Outlook, and retest.

I will try that in the morning and let you know how things are going. Is
there anywhere to look on the web or microsoft to find out what the
faultrep.dll file does in windows?

I have started to disable some of the addons and outlook seemes to be working
again. However, when I looked, I noticed that word 2003 was no longer my
default editor for email messages. I then tried to set word 2003 back as my
default editor, but I get an error message saying that word 2003 can be used
as the default email editor as word (not even listed in the error as word
2003) is either not installed, corrupted or not the same version as outlook
2003. I have done nothing to word 2003 and I believe that it is still
installed. What would cause this problem and how to do I fix it?
