Outlook 2003 Hangs/Stops Responding

Hello.
Is anyone else experiencing problems with Outlook 2003
hanging. After I close Outlook the icon shows in the task
bar and the pop up says Outlook is synchronizing folders.
When I start Outlook it says downloading 2 of 3 messages
and then freezes up.
