Outlook 2003 is killing me!!

OK, a bit dramatic, but ... Ever since I installed this I'm spending a ton of
time just sitting and waiting. For example, I like to move all my deleted
stuff to local folders rather than just getting rid of it (yeah, I'm a pack
rat but as soon as I permanently delete something - I need it again). When I
select a screen's worth of message to move them I have to wait for like 2-3
minutes before I am actually able to do the move. Also, if the first
message in the InBox is highlighted and I use the down-arrow to go down
through my messages I can only do this for 2-3 messages and everything hangs
up again for 20-30 seconds. PST files are on my hard drive, in case you're
wondering. I'm using OneNote, so I want to continue to use Outlook 2003, but
I can't help but be tempted to 'upgrade' back to previous version.

Any help is appreciated.

OK - after a little more investigation - part of the problem is virus
scanning of attachments. If I disable LDVP it does speed up the movement
from item to item, but it's still about a second or so for each one. Waaaay
slower than previous versions. I can't keep LDVP inactive (corporate policy)

So ... still looking for help!
