Outlook 2003 keeps freezing up

Since I installed Office 2003 outlook continues
to 'freeze' and an error report informs me there has been
a fata error and it must shut down. I also observe that
it is trying to syncronize yet I do not run from an
exchange 2003 server. . .

Truly exasperated - tried uninstall and install and still
no luck.

Running Norton Firewall and Norton AntiVirus.

Any help would really help.
