Outlook 2003 msg files cannot open unless dragged to the desktop

Greetings,

On 2-3 systems in my company, end users cannot open fowarded msg files in
Outlook. The file association is set fine.

The only way they can open then is by dragging the file to the desktop.
Does anyone have suggestions to possibly fix this problem? I appreciate any
response.

Thanks in advance,

Toni P.

What happens when they try?

Greetings,

Thanks for your reply, Brian.

They get the message "the object could not be found" when they attemot to
open the msg file attached in an Outlook message.

Let me know what you think might be the problem.

Thanks in advance,

What association is defined for MSG files?

They are associated with Outlook. I hope that helps.

The only thing I can think of, then, is that your Temporary Internet Files
and, in particular, the Outlook cache, may be too full. Try emptying the
TIF cache.

Had the same problem. The best solution is to change the Temp ordner. You
have to do this in the registry. No worries all attachments will remain.

Regedit. Find following key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSec
ureTempFolder

Change the temp folder like OKI9 into anything else.

Thanks! However, opening Outlook in Safe Mode by holding down the CTRL key
fixed. I may consider you fix as a preventive measure though if we keep
having this problem.

Thanks for the feedback!
