Outlook 2003 Not Connecting Over VPN with Windows 7

Mark

Just set up a Windows 7 notebook with OUtlook 2003 connecting to Exchange
2003. All current service packs are installed.

When the notebookd is connected locally, outlook connects to exchange and
works perfectly.

When I connect through a VPN tunnel I can browse any shares on the same
server that exchange is on, but Outlook cannot connect. The same account
works fine on an XP machine. A VPN tunnel is the only option for connecting
with this machine when it is outside the company.

Any suggestions for fixing?

Thanks

No error messages at all and nothing in the event viewer. The only visable
sign is the outlook status shows connecting briefly then disconnected.

If I try to create a new profile over the VPN connection, when clicking on
the check name button I get an error of The connection to the Microsoft
Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to
complete this action.

The same account works perfectly through the vpn on an xp machine. I am
totally confused as to what is going on here.

Can someone tell me how to change Outlook 2003 configuration so it allows me
to accept emails over 5 meg?

I don't know how to post a new topic so I selected your topic RE: Outlook
2003.

Outlook has no such limit. Any restriction on email size is at the server.
You don't say what type of mail account you have?

If you connect to an Exchange server (work, school) then the limit is set
there. You would have to talk to your Exchange Admin but they may only lift
the restriction temporarily for you. If you use an ISP, they make the
restriction on their server. You can in that case check your ISP's website,
they often offer webmail.

Or you can use yousendit.com to send/receive large emails.

Cached mode normally. I did try with cache disabled, but as soon as I open
Outlook it gives Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable error.
Only thing left that I can thing of trying is an update for our ISA server
that is handling the VPN connection on the company side. I cannot do anything
with during business hours since it is also the internet pipe for our
Exchange server.

Did this work before you upgraded to Windows 7? If they're using Cisco for
the VPN tunnel, it may need an upgrade to the latest version.

When you connect via, can you ping the Exchange server and browse the
network (get to your home drive, a common drive, etc.)?

Can the Admin see you connecting via the VPN?
