Outlook 2003 "Not responding" when Outlook is launched

I have Outlook 2003 running on a Windows Vista machine for about 8 months. A
month or two ago Outlook began to give a "not responding" message for several
seconds while it was being launched. This message doesn't appear immediately
and then after it has been displayed for several seconds it disappears and
Outlook starts up. Does anyone have any ideas?
