Yes everything works just fine with Office 2003 and XP. The Auto updates are
Windows Updates, I do not think there is a Office Automatic Update now or in
planning as there are usually so many options on Office Updates.

We may be talking about two different things but if one goes to
Windows Updates there is a site above where MS will automatically scan
the computer for any Office Updates.

Office Update will scan only if you physically go there and click "check for
updates", as opposed to Windows Automatic Update which will check for
updates silently in the background (it's default setting) while online.

Outlook 2003 and Word XP will NOT work well together. In fact not at all. If Outllook 2003 is installed and Word is wanted as the editor then Word 2003 HAS to be installed. I have never tried two versions of Outlook on one machine; it may work I just never tried it.

You are right on this of course George, I read it as the full Office 2003,
not just Outlook 2003.
Two versions of Outlook can be messy unless they are on different partitions
and you are very careful that no common files are used. I tried it out, but
just had too many problems.

not a automatic feature (read un-attended) you still have to go to the
office update, check for updates and then install.
On the Windows Update that is in the Control panel, if set, it goes to Win
Update and downloads the updates without you doing anything at all, I am
always "On-line" as I have DSL and often Win Updates are installed when I
check in the morning.
So maybe it should be called "Un-Manned Auto Update) (er. Un_Person to be
correct)....

Just a mis-communication. I remember when I had Outlook 98 and Office
97. Often updates would not work correctly because I had mixed
versions. I simply wish to eliminate the security threat of HTML by
opening all email in plain text. I find it odd that Office 2002, XP,
and 2003 should be released as separate packages so close together and
that this key security feature that is in Outlook Express was not
included as a patch for XP. I did download the 3rd party patch from my
other post.

versions of Office. I run into people with that problem all the time in the
Pocket PC PDA groups as the PDA will include Outlook 2002 and many of the
users are running different versions of Office.
What is the security patch that you mentioned ? I could not find it in

As you probably know, HTML can contain malware. Outlook Express has
the option to open all email in plain text, as does 2003. I am more
concerned with security than I am HTML email. I feel that MS should
have added this option to XP as a patch particularly since I bought
the full version of Office XP less than a year ago.
