Outlook 2003 opens messages very slowly

I'm having a problem with Outlook 2003 moving very slowly between messages.
When I open Outlook, the screen fills very quickly except for the preview
screen, which takes about 10 to 15 seconds. It moves relatively quickly to
contacts or the calendar, but whenever I go back to mail, again the preview
screen takes awhile.

I have run the detect and repair tool, run the repair routine off the
installation CD, and deleted and reinstalled office. I've downloaded and
installed the latest updates off the web. I've halted Norton Internet
Security with no change.

I'm running Windows XP Media Edition with 1 Gb RAM. There are no other
performance issues.

Any ideas?
