Outlook 2003 over VPN

Hi

I'm having a problem currently connecting to my exchange 5.5 box with
outlook 2003 over a vpn

when adding the exchange mailbox the program fails to recognise the mail box
name - server offline etc - i can ping the local IP & name of the exchange
box?

any ideas appreciated

Can you map drives to that server from the remote machine? What OS are you
using?
