Outlook 2003 POP 3 problems

I

Ian

I am downloading my POP 3 account using Outlook 2003.
When outlook downloads the email it is set to leave a
copy of the email on the server for other users. Next
time outlook sends and receives it downloads the same
email it previously downloaded. This is constantly
repeeated. How do i get outlook to just download the
email once but keep a copy on the server.

I recently upgraded from outlook express 6 to Outlook.

I have scanned the pst file for errors but this has not
stopped the error. I have also tried creating a new pst
file for email to be stored in but this has not corrected
the problem. This problem is simillar to the error which
can occur in outlook express:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;314578

How can i solve this in Outlook 2003?

Thanks

Did you install SP1 that was recently released? it's supposed to fix this
problem.

try removing the setting to leave on server and reeneble it, otherwise, we
need to know the mail server software you use.

hrmmm, that is strange. I have tried 2 other email
clients, and both of them work fine with leaving the mail
on the server. It seems like I shouldn't have to delete
the mail from the server. I wonder why Outlook 2003
behaves differently from the others...

It depends... could be a corrupt setting - hence the request to disable,
apply and enable... or signals are crossed as it talks to the mail server
and the list of messages downloaded isn't updated. Two similar problems were
updated in SP1 to address this issue. If you check mail too frequently (less
than about every 8 min) Outlook can bug out when a second mail pass is
called before it updates the list of already downloaded messages.

I think there is another person replying to the same
thred i orginally posted. Anyway i tried enabling and
disabling the setting and this did not resolve the
problem.

I asked what mail server i was using and the tech support
said:

"Our servers use imail to send mail, this should not
affect any setting in MS Outlook 2003 as we use the same
office set up."

Anymore ideas.

Thanks

Yeah, I just have the same exact problem that you have.
I've tried everything I can think of and nothing has
worked. I think my last option is to just download all
the messages from the server and then re-enable the
setting and hope that subsequent messages don't
duplicate. I am trying to put this off as long as
possible because it is something I really don't want to
do. =( What really puzzles me is that there are many
other clients that don't have this problem. I wouldn't
have guessed that this would be such a difficult issue
for a client to handle.

O well, I hope there are more ideas and suggestions!

Thanks!!
