Outlook 2003 Reading Pane Problem

I use Outlook 2003 and Windows XP Pro SP3. The "Reading Pane" command in the
menu is greyed out. I've tried Detect & Repair, closing & restarting Outlook,
& rebooting the computer. None of these things worked. I would appreciate
your help in restoring functionality to this menu item. Thank you.

Have you tried using the /cleanviews switch to start Outlook?

start->run->outlook.exe /cleanviews

No, I haven't tried that. In fact, I'm unfamiliar with it. What does this
switch do? Thanks for your help.

I just tried the /cleanviews switch. The problem persists. What else can I do
to fix this? Thanks!
