Outlook 2003 Set reminders do not pop up

When i set an appointment in Outlook 2003 the reminder box is ticked to pop
up 15 minutes prior to the appointment, but it never does. I have also
checked in tools and reminder options and all correct options are selected.

Is the appointment in your default Calendar?
