outlook 2003 slow

I have Outlook 2003 on an XP Media Center machine. It has 1 gig of
memory, fast processor, and is standalone. Outlook takes 3 or 4
seconds to move/delete emails, and about the same to move to another
folder.

I have no instant messaging, have removed the speech recognition,
language options, The pst file is 275,793KB. Also, I ran scanpst.exe
and, while it did find errors and correct them, and there was some
improvement, the problem remains.

The only thing I can thing of is that MS Office is installed on the D
drive (a partition) while Windows XP is on the C drive. Would it make
any difference. That is my usual convention, to put applications on
one drive and the operating system on another and it hasn't been a
problem before. But, I'm running out of ideas. (Yes, I could just try
and move the applications, but I'd prefer some experience and
information before making a move since who know what 'could' happen.)

Would appreciate any feedback/suggestions.

OL2003 on my slower cpu, and installed on D, with 6 pst's open has no
performance degridation.

Couple of things you might check;
Any Addins/Coms installed? eg AV/Spam/Sync if so ensure latest versions
The polling interval, not set for less than 10 mins
It is an OL2003 (unicode) pst and not an earlier version pst? eg from your
previous OL version.

No addins. I've run it with the firewall and antivirus stopped. All
with no change in performance. Pooling is more than 10 minutes. The
pst was created with installation.

As a matter of fact, to test and see if the number of folders might be
an issue I've created a 2nd profile (a separate PST file I believe) and
that had no change.

Got to be something else.
