Outlook 2003 Will Not Allow Pictures in .JPG format to be Inserted in Message Body

I don't understand why Outlook 2003 will not allow some photos to be
inserted in the body of a message, though it will allow others to be
inserted. In both cases, the photos are in .jpg format.

I shall greatly appreciate your help with this.

What errors do you get?
Is there a difference in the message format you're using in these messages?

Are you using "Insert, Picture" and not Insert File?

Thanks for your interest, Lanwench.

The problem is indeed strange. 2 pictures that I had scanned into the
computer from an HP G85 using Digital Image Pro 10's scanner import feature
simply would not insert into the body of an Outlook 2003 e-mail. message I
was trying to send. Every time I tried to insert them into the message, all
that inserted was one of those small recesses in the upper left-hand corner
of the area where the photo should have appeared. Both of these photos had
been saved on my hard disk in .jpg format. So, they should have inserted
without a hitch. But they wouldn't

As a workaround, I scanned them in again, using the HP G85's own scanning
software to scan and store them on my hard disk in .jpg format. Then I
opened each on in DIP 10 and cropped and enhanced the photos as needed, and
subsequently save the cleaned-up images back to my hard disk in .jpg format.
After all of that I was able to insert the photos into my outgoing Outlook
2003 message with no problem.

So, there is obviously something unique about the way DIP 10 saves photos in
..jpg format than is true for other applications. DIP 10 tries to save
images that it has imported from my scanner in .png format. However, it did
alloy me to change it to .jpg from a pull-down menu. Perhaps this has
exposed a previously undiscovered bug in DIP 10. Maybe not. Nevertheless,
my workaround did solve the problem for me.

Point or cursor is in the message body). I was not using Insert File.

Glad you found a workaround - I really can't think of why this might be
happening!
