Will someone please let me know if outlook will work with windows live and a
hotmail account?
How do I set the email account to get email from windows live?

If it's a free Hotmail account, that ship sailed over two years ago. That's
one reason why I haven't changed over to Outlook from Outlook Express. I had
two of my Hotmail accounts set up prior to the change.

I have the premium account. I just ran the msn installer and it automatically
reset the account to be able to work with the live version! It even provided
a outlook connector for outlook which started as soon as I opened outlook up!
Problem solved

JoAnn:

I thought that I had received an MS notice of the switch, and that people
with Hotmail accounts prior to (?) Would still be able to access Hotmaill
through OE or Outlook...

I know the overall policy had changed, but I thought....

Now, in having to re-set up Outlook, it *is* giving me issues...

So am I out-to-lunch on this or what?

If you are talking about the free accounts, they had to be set up before
September of 2004. It's not just a matter of the account being that old, you
actually had to have it set up before then. And they've been saying that it
was just for the time being. I am surprised that I can still access them
with OE 2+ years later.

Yes, I was speaking of the free accounts, and I've had and used one since ...
1999?...

I just went directly to Hotmail, and was taken to the "new" Hotmail, and
when I switched it back to the "old", I was able to download messages in
OE... Got a few glitches, but...

MS is obviously trying to shut that down, since OE isn't part of Vista
anymore anyway, is it?

Too bad cause it was a great convenience... Web apps still have a ways to go
to catch local desktop versions, ICO...

Chuck

For someone who is always online a web app is ok...if you don't mind waiting
for attachments to be rescaned each time you look at them. For a mobile user
who is using a wireless modem to connect, it's nice to have the emails and
attachments stored on the email and available even when off line.

And what happens when outlook is opened / started?
1) nothing, it doesnt start or gives an err; then use the office cd to
repair the installation
2) it opens but none of the old mail is there; within outlook,
File>Open>Data file.....browse to and open any other data files
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm
3) there are no other data files; then presumably the 'recover from crash'
process destroyed all the origonal data
4) outlook is an email client not account, you have to enter the account
info supplied by the ISP
