Outlook 2003 will not verify username and password, but outlook express will

I am setting up a new Dell Dimension 4600 running XP Pro and office pro 2003

I have attempted to set up a pop3 email account and have quadruple checked
every thing, but when I attempt to receive mail, it asks for a username and
password , and then fails saying server would not authenticate the
username/password. Yet I can set the same account up in express and it works
fine.

I have disabled all firewall and virus protection.

Any ideas or has anyone seen this problem?

I am not sure if this will help you, but wont hurt to
try. Tools/Options/Mail Setup/E-mail Accounts/Next/Change
then make sure "SPA" is unchecked. Remember password is
checked. Go to more settings and "My outgoing Server is
checked. Use same settings as incoming is checked.
This helped me when I had that problem. Hope this helps.
