Outlook 2003 won't archive correctly

Outlook 2003 won't archive correctly. I set the parameters to archive all
messages earlier than Jan 1 2008. My .PST file is over 4 gigs. Many
messages are older than 2008. But the archiving terminates with only 4 megs
of messages, far short of what the archive parameter should produce. What is
going wrong? How do I fix it?

I have to reduce the size of my .PST file, it's far too big. Help?

First thing to check is the Last Modified Date on some of the messages you
think should have been used as that is what auto-archive uses to determine
if an item should be archived.

That's not the problem--most of these messages haven't been modified for a
number of years. Do you have another idea?

Ok, take a message that should have been archived, open it, go to File -
Properties.
What's the Modified date?
Is the Do not Archive box checked?

OK, you're right about one thing. I believe that when I transferred email to
Outlook 2003 in June 2008 after installation of the program (transferred
from Eudora), the "modified date" was changed to the installation date.

So now I'm stuck. All of the old messages had their "modified" date
changed. How can I sweep them out of the Outlook.pst file. I have far too
many mail files to do this one-by-one.

Ideas, and thanks again.

Create a rule that works off of 'received in a specific date span' and moves
to your archive pst, do a run rules now in that folder where the messages
are and wait.
