Outlook 2003 won't archive !!!!!

I have outlook 2003 running on XP professional on both my
laptop and my workstation here at work. When I try to
archive it starts, I know this because hard drive
activity begins and down in the right hand side of
outlook there are some activity statements about pst
files. Then about 1 second later it stops. archive size
always ends up being 256 kbytes and there is nothing that
ends up being in the archive. I have tried different
dates and file names but the same thing occurs. Any help
would be greatly appreciated because my outlook profile
is getting to large !!!!
