Outlook 2003 won't close

After running Outlook 2003, when I close it, Outlook and Word stay in memory,
both have to be closed with Office Application Recovery or Task Manager.
I'm running Win XP Pro SP3 updated to the last update from Automatic Updates.
Any help?
